Breaking the Ice

I wanted to make my first post to start this Blog off right and break the ice to hopefully future readers with a bit of a more in depth introduction for readers to get a better feel for what my goals are for this website. As I have said in other parts of At Your Own Pace, I have loved history my whole life, however I am not a professional historian by any means. The path a person has to take in order to be considered and recognized as a professional Historian takes years of working towards a doctorate degree in just a specific subject in history. This can cost them years of stress and no small amount of debt. That being said, there are so many different avenues in history that interest me that I find it impossible for me to focus on just one, from people of all walks of life, places with great historical significance, countless discoveries and even the weird and random aspects I never knew about. The last type is my favorite, something that I never knew about all of a sudden takes me on a journey in new aspects of history all because I just happened to stumble upon them one day. I want to learn and explore all of these different parts of history to improve and grow as a person. At the same time aiming to learn through researching and writing for this website and hopefully to learn more from those that read the posts that are published here in the process. Which is why I am intentionally leaving the subject areas we will explore very broadly so we can explore numerous topics and fields as we see fit.

There are plenty of content creators whose platforms are dedicated to very specific topics and don't get me wrong I find this type of material to be amazing. We have online an endless amount of truly great creators who share and create content that can delve deeper into aspects of history than I could even imagine. At Your Own Pace’s goal is to cover various aspects of history that the reader may already have in mind. This could be where you want to know more about something in particular and so hopefully a posts here may contribute as a building block on your path of understanding or enjoying your target subject, or if you the reader can stumble upon something that is completely new to you or a perspective of history that you have never seen before. I would be thrilled to know that this blog helped in either way and I would love to know more about what you the readers of this blog want me to explore. From reviewing a biography on the endless interesting characters found in history, to traveling to specific places with historical significance. I want to leave this blog with as little restrictions as possible and hopefully with time you can pick through the website for anything that interests you.

I feel like I need to add a disclaimer and to add emphasis to the fact that I am not a professional, I'm going to make mistakes, likely many. This I feel like is a natural part of the process and know that it's a part of learning and growing. So any constructive criticism or advice will always be appreciated. With time we can watch this website go from the starting introduction of myself and the website to a thriving community that is learning and growing alongside one another with the core emphasis still in mind that you should learn, grow and devlop at your own pace.
